Maths enrichment sessions by VC

We can provide enrichment sessions by VC for any number of students. These are intended to last for a double lesson, and will include:

  • a live VC for the length of the double lesson
  • all materials required for the session

Cost: £120 for up to 1 hour, £170 for up to 90 minutes, £220 for up to 2 hours.

To book: email motivate@maths.org, giving the title of the module you want, the number and age of the students for whom it is intended, and a choice of dates/times when you would like it to take place.

Maths Days

We can provide a Maths Day, organised like our one-day conferences. The day will start with an interactive videoconference session and students will then be given follow-up material to do with their teachers which is set on our website. After a time off-camera, students will return to camera to feedback on what they have done, and to move forward in the topic during another VC session. This cycle will continue throughout the day, ending in a short presentation from the students of what they have done during the day.

  • Maths Day activities organised for a day or half-day or other time to suit
  • project work set on the Motivate website and tailored to the requirements of the students involved
  • supporting materials provided as required
  • all content provided by an experienced teacher or researcher via videoconference
  • cost: £275 for a half day, £395 for a full day, other times by arrangement

The following are possible topics - links give an indication only of the content, since we take into account your specific requirements in planning our maths days:

It is also possible to arrange astronomy topics for students of all ages. To find out more about any of these opportunities or to discuss a topic of your own choice, please contact us (email Jenny Gage) to discuss the possibilities - we are always keen to expand our repertoire!

Further Maths enrichment days

We can provide enrichment days for Further Maths Centres and schools to help students see links between topics, their relevance to maths in general and their applications. In 2007, we provided a very successful day for the Kent FM Centre on Complex Numbers and Matrices, but we would be happy to consider a day or half-day conference on any other topic also.

  • enrichment material provided for a day or half-day or other time to suit
  • project work set on the Motivate website and tailored to the requirements of the students involved
  • supporting materials provided as required
  • all content provided by researchers in a relevant field via videoconference
  • cost: £275 for a half day, £395 for a full day, other times by arrangement

To find out more about any of these opportunities or to discuss a topic of your own choice, please contact us (email Jenny Gage) to discuss the possibilities - we are always keen to expand our repertoire!

Videoconferencing courses for classes or for teachers

Short, introductory courses

If your school has videoconferencing equipment, but you're not sure what to do with it, or how you might use it in a maths lesson one of our introductory courses might be what you need. This could be in the form of a session with a class to demonstrate the use of VC directly with students (interested teachers are welcome to sit in), or it could be an after-school session with teachers keen to experience videoconferencing for themselves and find out more about it.

  • either a short introduction to videoconferencing and interactive mathematical activities suitable for the student age group concerned
  • or an introduction to videoconferencing, details of what we provide in our conference programmes and experience of mathematical videoconferencing for teachers - this could also include technical issues for teachers not supported by a technician
  • up to 1 hour long
  • follow-up suggestions provided
  • cost: £100

Courses and Workshops run by the NRICH Team

The NRICH Team can run mathematics courses and workshops for teachers and/or pupils at your centre. For more information and some possible ideas, please see the NRICH website.
