Answers to Task 3a: the Symmetries of the Square

The 8 symmetries are:

leaving the square alone
rotating it through 90 degrees clockwise about its centre
rotating it through 180 degrees clockwise about its centre
rotating it through 270 degrees clockwise about its centre (or you could call that a rotation through 90 degrees anticlockwise)
reflecting it about a vertical axis through the centre
reflecting it about a horizontal axis through its centre
reflecting it about a diagonal axis running from top left to bottom right through the centre
reflecting it about a diagonal axis running from bottom left to top right through the centre
