Department of History and Philosophy of Science University of Cambridge

Sophia did a degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, during which she became less interested in practising science itself and more interested in the history and philosophy of science. This was the subject in which she specialised in her final year.
She then went on to do an MPhil in the same area, during which one of her research interests has been in the material culture of mathematics. In particular, she has researched the history of the electronic calculator and its ephemera, using the collection in the Whipple Museum in Cambridge. She is now mid-way through a PhD at Cambridge on the history of twentieth century science and war.
