So what do you want to know about our solar system, the stars, galaxies, black holes or our universe? In this day conference, Lisa Jardine-Wright will use your questions to lead KS2 children in finding out more about our universe.
We would like participating schools to submit questions in advance, and we will then select those which have most to offer and plan a range of activities for the children to do and discuss during the session. The activities will be chosen to challenge the children's pre-conceptions and to help them find out more about the universe.
Equipment needed for experiments (ideally for each group of about 5 or 6 children):
- room to move around (for human earth-moon system and solar system)
- a selection of differently sized balls and other small objects, such as lentils, peppercorns, marbles, ... (for scale in the solar system)
- a toilet roll (entire, ie. with all its sheets, for scale in the solar system)
- rulers and calculators (for scale in the solar system)
- some cardboard boxes containing flour with a layer of cocoa on the top and a means of protecting the floor and table top from the mixture splashing onto them (to use with some of the balls/objects for a crater experiment)
